Stevie D is a native of Brownsville, TX. Although he was born in Fresno, CA, he and his parents moved to Brownsville when Stevie was about 3 yrs old. He attended Perez Elementary, Cummings Jr High and Hanna High School.
Stevie is a Dessert Storm Veteran serving his time defending our Country in the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged in June of 1991.
After being released from the military, Stevie returned to Brownsville and began to pursue his vocal career and joined a local start-up band, being hired for Quinceneras, Weddings, and a variety of private events. After just a couple of years with this act, he joined another local act called Rio Express Band.
Stevie D sang with Rio Express for a two-year period when he began searching for Brownsville’s finest talent to begin what would end up being one of the Rio Grande Valley’s premier variety bands, The Texas Shooters. Musicians such as Mike Gonzalez (Jimmy Gonzalez y Mazz) Adolfo Garcia (Kumbia Kings) and several others were a part of this fun period.
Stevie D began recording several singles with Lorenzo Lopez (brother of Joe Lopez) and Brando Mireles at Lorenzo’s Studio in Brownsville, TX (Loren Records). Nothing was ever released.
After 4 years, Stevie D joined Joe Lopez Y La Nueva Imagen Mazz and ended the the Texas Shooters after the Jimmy and Joe break up. Working mainly as a Road Manager and Traveling with Joe and Lorenzo Lopez, Stevie began displaying his vocal interests and soon made his way on to the stage as a back-up vocalist for Joe Lopez. On July 4 2003 Stevie performed his last appearance with Joe Lopez y La Nueva Imagen Mazz. (SPI)
After a 15 yr break from the Tejano Industry Stevie reunited with La Nueva Imagen and the former members of the Joe Lopez era group. Invited to take the stage at the San Antonio Rodeo 2016, it didn’t take but two seconds when Stevie decided enough was enough. He wanted a comeback and wanted it in a strong way.
Stevie contacted Brando Mireles formally of Mazz, and both decided it was a time that the industry got something FRESH!
Brando and Stevie produced “Como Fue” with Brando as the Arranger, Producer and Director. With the idea of recording a hit, Mireles brought Gilbert Velasquez (14 time Grammy Award Winner) into the picture to add his guitar playing and mixing magic. Musicians include Grammy Award Winner Chente Barrera on drums and Grammy Award Winner Val Maltos with Brando Mireles on Keyboards. “Como Fue” has hit the airwaves with complete acceptance! The rest is History in the Making!
The complete CD is scheduled for release this Fall.
